Matt Hawkins

Matthew J. Hawkins, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member

Matthew J. Hawkins gratefully leads an incredible team at Waystar, the combination of Navicure and ZirMed, the two top-rated providers of revenue cycle technologies. Waystar simplifies and unifies the healthcare revenue cycle with innovative technology that allows clients to collect more with less cost and less stress, so they can focus on their goals, patients, and communities.

The industry has recognized Navicure and ZirMed as leaders for more than a decade. Navicure and ZirMed have collectively earned Best in KLAS® claims clearinghouse honors every year since 2010, including 2018. Black Book Research® has recognized the two companies with multiple #1 rankings in both medical claims processing and patient payment since 2012. The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has also designated ZirMed as “Peer Reviewed by HFMA”.

Matt is a proven software executive and is passionate about technology’s role in improving healthcare. In the last five years, Matt has helped identify and architect more than $1.7 billion of healthcare technology-related investments. A number of industry and business publications have acknowledged Matt’s leadership including Becker’s Hospital Review “Entrepreneurs to Know”, Healthcare IT News “H.I.T. Men of the Year” in 2013, and Utah Business Magazine’s “Forty Under 40” in 2011. He is an author and contributor to various healthcare-related articles in Health Data Management, Becker’s Hospital Review, Healthcare IT News, Healthcare Business and Technology, and USA Today.

Before joining Waystar as CEO and board member in 2017, Matt was president of Sunquest Information Systems, leading its transformation into a global leader in laboratory diagnostic informatics. Sunquest’s transformation included architecting several acquisitions to enhance its ability to serve its clients. During his tenure, Frost & Sullivan recognized Sunquest as 2017 Diagnostic IT Company of the Year and Black Book Research’s rated Sunquest #1 among diagnostic lab solutions. Previously, Matt was with Vista Equity Partners, serving as president and board member of Greenway Health, CEO and board member of Vitera Healthcare Solutions, and CEO and board member of SirsiDynix. From 2004 to 2007, Matt was vice president and general manager of Henry Schein Practice Solutions. Earlier in his career, he was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

Matt received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree with University Honors from Brigham Young University. He is also deeply committed to volunteer service.

Jim Lacy

Jim Lacy, Chief Strategy Officer and Counsel

Jim Lacy oversees Waystar’s financial management, business strategy, and risk management. Jim’s role extends well beyond a traditional Chief Strategy Officer by contributing to product design, development, and growth as Waystar focuses on developing software that enables clients to achieve their mission.

In 2004, Jim joined ZirMed, now known as Waystar, in his current roles. He also successfully led product in the first years of his tenure. During his time with ZirMed, the firm experienced rapid growth, was a multi-year recipient of Inc. magazine’s 500/5000 fastest growing companies and Healthcare Informatics Top 100 awards, and strongly contributed to ZirMed earning a #1 Best in KLAS® distinction five times.

Prior to joining ZirMed, Jim served as corporate counsel and as EVP of development for a vertically integrated post-acute care company, where he built his knowledge of the provider-side experience and oversaw a 300% increase in revenue over four years and sale of the company to become a national post-acute platform. Out of law school, Jim began his career with PwC as a tax consultant serving both public and private manufacturing and healthcare clients.

Jim holds a BS in Economics from Centre College and a JD from the University of Louisville. Jim serves on the board of directors for the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Chris Schremser

Chris Schremser, Chief Technology Officer

Chris Schremser oversees all engineering functions and serves as Waystar’s chief security officer. Chris has held the role of CTO with ZirMed, now known as Waystar, since 2002.

Chris has a proven track record of success with diverse technology teams ensuring that all engineering factors mesh cohesively in order to provide and maintain a superior finished product. He has expertise in complex system requirements including HIPAA, HITECH, and PCI regulations.

Prior to his current role, Chris served as an IT engineer and consultant for InnerSpace Computers, where he specialized in network installation and configuration, firewall installation and support, application support and remote troubleshooting.

Chris also previously served as a Director for WAVE Television, an NBC affiliate located in Louisville, KY, where he was responsible for coordinating technical execution of various newscasts and feature programming.

Chris holds a BS in Telecommunications from the University of Evansville.

Ric Sinclair

Ric Sinclair, Senior Vice President, Product

Ric Sinclair is responsible for defining and driving Waystar’s product vision, strategy and execution. Ric leads product innovation of Waystar’s industry-leading cloud solutions and oversees direction of Waystar’s entire suite of software solutions.

Ric has a proven history of leading innovation initiatives, including his tenure as the head of product for ZirMed, now known as Waystar. While serving in this role, ZirMed successfully expanded into new markets, launched over 10 impactful new product lines and received numerous awards for innovation and service excellence. Ric is a continual learner with an unwavering commitment to disrupt the status quo and make healthcare more efficient for everyone.

Prior to his time at ZirMed, Ric was a senior member of the management team at a national provider organization. Ric oversaw the company’s software delivery model and worked to transform the business from a regional service provider into a nationally focused company.

Ric holds an MBA from Indiana University, BSBA from the University of Louisville and completed advanced studies at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.

Paul Bradley, Chief Data Scientist

Paul Bradley leads the research and development of predictive modeling technologies in revenue cycle solutions at Waystar. He is responsible for driving the predictive analytics platform to improve the business and process of healthcare. Waystar’s Charge Integrity technology helps our clients achieve ROI multiples of 4 to 10.

Paul brings 19 years of research experience to Waystar’s focus on classification and clustering algorithms, underlying mathematical problem formulations, issues related to scalability and their application to healthcare problems.

Before assuming his current role at Waystar, Paul was a co-founder and Chief Data Scientist at MethodCare, now known as Waystar, which utilized predictive modeling and analytics over large data sets in patient access, charge integrity and reimbursement solutions. Prior to MethodCare, Paul consulted on data mining algorithm integration with Microsoft Research and SQL Server, and led data analysis solution implementations for a number of Microsoft divisions.

Earlier, Paul was a researcher at Microsoft Research, where he developed new data mining algorithms and components that shipped with Microsoft’s flagship database SQL Server.

Paul earned his PhD and MS degrees in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin.

Tom Arena, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Sales

Tom Arena leads the enterprise sales teams at Waystar. Tom is responsible for recruiting, developing, and managing sales managers and professionals for success, along with optimizing and overseeing processes to help Waystar’s larger clients realize financial success.

Tom brings nearly 30 years of experience of guiding merging organizations into one integrated brand and designing sales processes reflective of the company’s vision and goals. He formerly served as Senior Vice President, North America, at Sunquest and Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer at General Genetics Corporation. In addition, Tom has held leadership roles at other healthcare technology companies such as hc1.com, Accumen and Solstas Lab Partners.

Tom holds a BA in Liberal Arts from West Virginia University.

Craig Bridge, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Integration Officer

Craig Bridge oversees Waystar’s operations and seamless connections of Waystar’s technology platform with over 440,000 providers and 21,000 healthcare organizations, including over 550 hospitals, health systems and more than 5,000 payer health plans. Craig is responsible for managing Waystar’s impressive payer network, business operations, and planning and executing and integrating Navicure with ZirMed.

Craig has more than 20 years of experience working in the healthcare transaction sector and brings a wealth of practical experience regarding the design and operation of high volume healthcare transaction processing enterprises.

Prior to co-founding Navicure, now known as Waystar, in 2001, Craig oversaw the Project Management and Quality Assurance Groups for S2 Systems, a leading global provider of mission-critical enterprise payment and transaction management solutions for the healthcare industry. Craig joined S2 Systems after serving in various positions of increasing responsibility within NDCHealth’s Provider Healthcare Transaction Group.

Craig holds an MBA with a concentration in Information Systems Management from Kennesaw State University’s Michael J. Coles College of Business and a BS in Psychology from the University of Georgia.

Susan Staples

Susan Staples, Senior Vice President, People Operations

Susan Staples leads People Operations with a focus on creating a strong performance culture and terrific experience for the Waystar team. Susan has a proven track record of guiding high-performing teams that connect business objectives with people strategies.

Prior to joining ZirMed, now known as Waystar, as Vice President of People Operations, Susan served as Leadership and Organizational Developer at Humana, where she focused on building organizational capability for senior leaders in areas such as executive onboarding and development, succession planning and change leadership. Susan also held numerous roles at Yum! Brands focusing on corporate and field human resources strategy and execution through best-in-class talent tools and key cultural initiatives.

Susan holds an MBA from the University of Louisville and a BS in Business from the University of Kentucky. She also earned a Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional certification.

Todd Woods, Senior Vice President, Business Development

Todd Woods is responsible for identifying and managing Waystar’s strategic partners and merger and acquisition activities.

Todd brings to Waystar over 20 years of healthcare industry and a proven track record of developing industry-leading channel programs through electronic medical record (EMR) vendors and pharmaceutical companies that drive revenue growth.

Prior to joining Navicure, now known as Waystar, in 2002, he served as Director of VAR Network Services for Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, a healthcare information technology solutions provider that advances clinical, financial and operational results. Todd developed Allscripts’ first channel program to bring clinical software to the healthcare provider community.

Prior to that, Todd served as an Account Manager for NDCHealth’s Provider Transaction Group and Cigna Healthcare, focusing on increasing electronic claims submissions from providers.

Todd holds an MBA from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and graduated from the University of Alabama with a BA in Healthcare Management.

Ken Edwards, Vice President, Enterprise Client Success

Ken Edwards ensures the client service success for Waystar’s health system and hospital organizations. He is responsible for managing the billing and technical support, implementation and training, account management, and project management of the team that supports Waystar’s enterprise clients.

Ken has over 22 years of experience in operations management and a proven track record of success. He demonstrates a passion for client focus and success. Ken’s leadership has strongly contributed to ZirMed’s, now known as Waystar, five #1 Best in KLAS® honors, which recognize the company with the highest client satisfaction ratings in Waystar’s sector each year. No company has been honored more.

Prior to joining Zirmed in 2012, Ken served in a number of Operations leadership roles for business units at IDX Systems and GE Healthcare, earning GE Healthcare’s CEO award.

Prior to IDX, Ken held a number of leadership positions at Motorola where he earned his Six Sigma Black Belt. Ken earned the first-ever Quality System Achievement Award from Motorola University East.

Ken holds an MBA from Boston University and a BA in Economics from Middlebury College.

Laura Bridge

Laura Bridge, Vice President, Physician Group Client Success

Laura Bridge ensures the client success of Waystar’s ambulatory organizations, including but not limited to physician practices. Laura leads the billing and technical support, implementation and training, account management and project management of the team that supports Waystar’s ambulatory clients.

Laura brings over 21 years of healthcare experience and a successful track record of leading award-winning customer support teams and achievements in client satisfaction. Laura joined Navicure, now known as Waystar, in 2002 with the mission of creating a world-class team of client service experts and infrastructure. Since then, Laura’s teams have contributed strongly to Navicure’s five #1 Best in KLAS honors, which recognize the company with the highest client satisfaction ratings in Waystar’s sector each year. No company has been honored more. Laura has successfully led client service teams with net promoter scores regularly in excess of 50 and as high as 71, and consistent client satisfaction rates of 95 percent or higher. Previously, Laura worked for six years within NDC Health’s Provider Healthcare Transaction Group.

Laura graduated from Samford University with a BA in Human Development and Family Studies.
