The way forward for Wellstar Health System + Cottage Health
Revenue cycle and IT teams are stronger together, and executives at Wellstar + Cottage Health are using Waystar to maximize that collaboration.
Complexity demands collaboration
Healthcare complexity continues to accelerate — from evolving payer requirements and regulations to rising cybersecurity risks. To keep pace, revenue cycle and IT teams must work in lockstep.
According to a Waystar-commissioned survey of more than 300 healthcare revenue and IT executives, 72% reported improved outcomes after introducing AI into their workflows, and 92% said advancing AI and automation is a top priority for reducing errors, increasing accuracy, and improving financial performance.
Healthcare isn’t getting simpler — it’s getting more complex. Jason Siedman, VP of Revenue Cycle Management at Wellstar Health System, argued that the better health systems partner across IT and revenue, the more effective everything becomes.
Translate business needs into technical execution
At Wellstar, technology decisions begin with business value. Leaders focus on defining the problem, prioritizing impact, and aligning limited resources across teams. This approach has enabled faster security reviews, stronger collaboration with IT, and clearer prioritization of initiatives tied directly to organizational outcomes.
Siedman shared that when IT understands the value of the work — whether that’s cash flow, access, or patient experience — everything moves faster.
Building resilience through preparation
Strong partnerships extend beyond day-to-day operations. Scenario planning and cross-functional exercises help organizations identify gaps and prepare for disruption — before it happens.
Sandy Lood, VP of Revenue Cycle at Cottage Health, shared that they bring executives together to walk through real scenarios.
“It’s a really great exercise to do that at your organizations, because it made us realize where all of our gaps were.”
Lood shared that this exercise helped them uncover risks they didn’t know existed. This regular practice gives organizations the ability to pivot quickly when something unexpected occurs.
